Physical Well-being - You are your most important instrument! SATURDAY 6 APRIL 2019

Learn how to overcome and prevent occupational chronic pain in the dental surgery with Dr Anikó Ball.  4 CPD Points.

Without knowledge of your biomechanical design, you bend and twist any which way to get the teatment done, without paying attention to yourself.  Chronic pain and discomfort impacts on career longevity, productivity and quality of life, forcing many of us to take time off or stop work completely.

Dr Anikó Ball will teach you:

Fundamental Inner Ergonomic Principles:

Aniko Ball Workshop

  • Cumulative Trauma in the dental surgery and daily life, and why there is an alarming incidence of occupational  chronic pain
  • Inner Ergonomics - what dentists need to know about their biomechanical design
  • Postural Awareness - recognition of harmful posture and movement patterns
  • The power of habit and how to change harmful habitual work postures

Inner Ergonomic Principles applied in the dental surgery & daily life:

  • Practical demonstrations, individual kinaesthetic guidance and practise of applied Inner Ergonomics in the clinic, in front of a computer, outside work
  • Postural awareness during treatment - taking care of yourself as you take care of the patient, and outside work

This practical, hands-on workshop around dental equipment, will set you on the path to career longevity as you will learn how to reduce the risk of occupational chronic pain.

Dr Aniko Ball

About our speaker - Dr Anikó Ball B.D.Sc.(Melb); Dip. Clin. Hyp.; Adv. Dip. Alexander Studies; Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique

Practising for over thirty years, Anikó suffered frequently from neck, back and shoulder pain. Doctors and physical therapists offered short-term symptom relief without identifying her condition as work related.

Fortunately, the Inner Ergonomic principles of the Alexander Technique helped her to recognize and change harmful work-postures; she learned about biomechanical design and got well. After undertaking a 1600-hour training course, Anikó founded “Optimum Dental Posture” to save her colleagues from suffering chronic pain.

Anikó has collaborated in a pilot study at the Melbourne Dental School, “Improving Oral Health Students’ Physical and Mental Wellbeing”, to show the benefits of Inner Ergonomics training. Her vision is reducing the incidence of occupational chronic pain in dentistry by introducing Inner Ergonomics training in the undergraduate curriculum. She has presented at Australian Dental Association Congresses and CPD courses.
