June 2026 Branch Meeting - "Be the Meerkat, not the banana" - Dental Injury Prevention with Chris James, Physiotherapist.
Musculoskeletal pain is a significant occupational health issue amongst dentists. The most frequently affected areas include the neck, shoulders and back with pain and/or musculoskeletal disorders caused by prolonged static posture, repetitive movements and poor positioning in the dental practice.
To mitigate risk, dentists are encouraged to adopt ergonomic practices, use assistive tools and engage in physical activity to maintain good posture.
This presentation by Physiotherapist, Chris James, will help you to better understand the risk factors for common dental musculoskeletal injuries of the neck, shoulders, hands and back, and will provide you with evidence-based and clinical strategies that actually work to prevent and/or manage dental musculoskeletal pain.
About our speaker:
Chris is an experienced manual physiotherapist, holding a post-graduate diploma in health science from AUT. With a strong background in treating work-related injuries, Chris is dedicated to helping individuals regain strength, mobility and confidence and she has a particularly keen interest in work-place injury prevention, frozen shoulder, neck and back injuries.
