Non-ADA Members - Single Implant Restoration - from planning to long-term prosthesis - with Dr Abdullah Barazanchi
Single Implant Restoration – from planning to long-term prosthesis.
Implant dentistry has drastically improved options for patient and clinicians when it comes to restoring an edentulous space. However, despite great strides in the technology, successful outcome of the treatment still heavily relies on the decision making and planning between the restorative and surgical teams.
The first part of the lecture highlights the decision making process for implants as a treatment option and communication with the patient. We will also discuss the various lab and clinical components required for fabrication of an implant as well as various restorative options such material options, CAD/CAM vs conventional, when stock or a custom abutment are appropriate, the when and how of cement and screw retained crown. A demonstration on how to fabricate a provisional implant crown chairside, how to improve soft tissue profile as well as learning what to look for when testing aesthetic and occlusal requirements and how to communicate them with the dental technician for fabrication of final restoration.
Learning objectives:
- Having a basic understanding on how to assess case difficulty and what to communicate with the surgeon.
- How to take an evidence-based approach when communicating options with your patients.
- Understanding the concept of prosthetically driven treatment planning.
- Provisional restoration of implants – why and how.
- Being aware of the various restorative options and pros and cons of each. This includes material choice and cement vs screw retained crowns.
- Understanding the various implant componentry and how to use them, including what is required when restoring an implant.
