Webinar October 2024 Branch Meeting - Endodontic Odyssey with Dr David Parkins and Dr Shraddha Patel

Endodontic treatment in New Zealand, a journey from 1986 to 2024. This presentation will cover the start of Endodontics as a Speciality in New Zealand through to today, covering advancements in techniques, instruments, and materials.

The lecture will be a journey through case presentations to high light clinical aspects of endodontic treatment, including root fractures, finding the MB2 and when to restore, along with an insight into the future for our speciality.

Dr Patel will also talk about Diabetes and Endodontics.

About our speakers:

Dr David Parkins:  David graduated with a BDS in 1980 from the University of Otago and completed his post graduate studies in Endodontics in 1986 at the Baylor College of Dentistry, Dallas, Texas, USA.  Returning in 1986, David established New Zealand’s first private specialist Endodontic Practice, in Auckland where he continues to practice today. He is a past president of the NZ Society of Endodontics, The Auckland Dental Association, and the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontics.  He has presented numerous lectures and hands-on training courses in endodontics and remains active in the area of continuing professional development throughout New Zealand and overseas.

 

Dr Shraddha Patel:  Shraddha graduated with a BDS degree from the University of Otago in 2007. She spent a year as a dental house surgeon at Greenlane, Auckland and Middlemore hospital and worked in both private and public practice in Auckland, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Adelaide. After working as a general dentist for over a decade, she then returned to Dunedin and completed her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Endodontics) in 2023 with the aid of a Doctoral Scholarship. Her doctoral research explored whether patients with Type II diabetes experience alterations in blood vessel formation in teeth, ultimately affecting their healing potential. She is a recipient of the ANZAE Sir John M Booth Award in 2023. And holds a Fellowship in General dentistry (FRACDS) and a Membership in Endodontics (MRACDS) with the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons.
